Motorola Moto G have Just Received Android 4.4.4 Update

Moto G owners got the Android 4.4.4 update almost a month ago, and the update is still trickling out for US carrier-branded devices, but the update has now reached to Spain.

Considering the speed with which Motorola has dropped the update for the Moto X, Moto G and Moto E globally, it's a little odd that carriers are slowing things down so much when others aren't, but that's carriers for you.

Motorola's update page they list the changelog for the update: Android 4.4.4 KitKat with power profile improvements, improved stability and the usual security fixes including to the OpenSSLbug.

There's also now the ability to pause video whilst recording with a new pause button in the camera interface.  The new dialer also makes an appearance, as does a new Motorola Alert app in case you find yourself in a spot of bother and require some assistance.

We'll update this article as more Moto G Android updates are announced around the globe, so stay updated on Facebook and Twitter for more details and arrival dates as they appear.

As always, if you don't already have the OTA notification waiting for you, you can check for the update manually by going to Settings> About Phone > System Updates.

Do you have the Android 4.4.4 update yet? How is your carrier's response to update releases?

Android L Material Design Apps For Every Android Device

When Google announced Material Design at I/O
recently I'm not sure if even they thought the
response to a developer preview of Android 5.0
would be so big and instantaneous. Sure,
Material Design is the biggest visual overhaul in
Android history , but the speed at which some
developers have adapted their existing apps to
match the new style (that even Google apps are
only just starting to get) is impressive.

Here's the list of apps that already feature Material
Design.

Moonshine Icon Pack

This one is pretty limited as far as the app
itself goes, but it's still a nice implementation of
Material Design that came out seriously quickly
after Google I/O. If you have a custom launcher
on your phone then you can switch out your tired
looking icons and get the Android L look with the
Moonshine Icon Pack which is also equipped
with a full Android L theme.

Considering how
long icon packs usually take to make, this one
must have been put together with no sleep at
all.

The result is very impressive though and
provides a great basis for your Android L
makeover.

Install Moonshine - Icon Pack.

Today Calendar

Today Calendar isn't just a great calendar app
and widget, but it's also had a funky fresh
material Design makeover that puts it amongst
the best looking apps in the Play Store. It's
clean, functional and looks great. What more
could you ask for when keeping track of your
busy lifestyle?

Install Today Calendar

Local Cast

This free, ad- or donation-supported app streams
PDFs, images, videos and music locally from
device to device.

The developers are clearly
paying close attention to not only Material
Design, but also to the current Google+ app , which shares the ever-present floating bubble
button.

LocalCast is one of the first apps to feature
Material Design.

Install LocalCast (Media 2 Chromecast).

Mindflux Open Beta

Mindflux lets you organize your calendars, notes,
tasks and alarms easily and clearly. The app is
still in beta, but if you can handle the occasional
bug you'll be rewarded with a great interpretation
of Google 's new design language. Inactive
elements are initially displayed flat and seem to
come forward when they are activated.

You'll
also see round buttons highlighting important
actions.

Install MindFlux Open Beta.

Flip - Currency Converter

If you are traveling abroad and want to know if
the pair of shoes you're checking out in a shop
window are actually a bargain then you can find
out quickly with this cool-looking currency
converter. The pseudo-flat Material button pops
to life when you tap it to invert your
conversions.

Flip - Currency Converter INSTALL

Now browser (Material)

Now Browser uses a less visible component of
Material Design: navigation. If you swipes from
the left edge to the right, you go back in your
history and if you swipe from the right, you move
forward in time again.

There's other browsers
that let you swipe between tabs, but this is the
first time I've seen it used for navigation in
browser history.

Install Now Browser (Material).

Root Check

Root Check verifies that your device has indeed
been rooted. This is a good tool to know if your
root attempt has worked, but also if you are
buying a used phone from someone you don't
know. Having super-user rights on a device
offers lots of freedom, but lots of risk if you
don't know what you're doing. The app shows
lots of root information in a simple Material
Design theme.

Install Root Check.

Google Chrome Beta

The Google Chrome Beta web browser has also
received the Material Design treatment. The card
stack layout for multiple tab switching may not
be quite the same as that seen in the developer
preview of Android L, but it's well on the way.
Right now we still don't know just how many
APIs KitKat is missing that are required for all of
the Material Desgin effects but it's clear that
Google is working full steam ahead on their app
makeovers.

Install Chrome Beta.

Honorable mentions

Talon (Beta) and Google Play Store
Google has partially updated the Play Store app
with Material Design components and you can
grab the beta version of the alternative Twitter
client, if you're running the Android L preview.

If you run into other apps that have been
redesigned with the Material theme in mind, be
sure to let us know so we can add them to this
list.

We'll update this list continuously, or at
least until there's so many Material Designed
apps popping up that this list is no longer
necessary.

What's your favorite app on the list above? What
aspects of Material Design don't you like?

Android 5.0 L(Lolipop) Top Features

Android L

Google's Head of Android, Sundar Pichai and
Mathias Duarte, the Head of Design, have just
officially previewed the next major version of the
world's most popular mobile operating
system, which is currently being called the L
release as it's still a developer preview, but we
know it better as Android 5.0 Lollipop.

We've
pulled apart the major features of the next big
thing in Android for you below.

Android Design:-

Android is a constantly evolving ecosystem and
the same thing can be said of the design
principles that Google expects of those making
use of its platform. The official Google apps are
always at the forefront of what to expect from
future versions of Android and provide a
template for quick-witted developers and
designers to base their own interface revisions
on.

This year is no different, with a strong focus
on improving design across the board of
Android., so we've already seen previews in the
new Google+ app and other leaks.

''Material Design''  is the new design language
we'll be seeing in Android, the web and desktop,
and it is playful, colorful and flatter than ever.
However, shadows are also a key element of the
new language with new options for developers to
integrate 3D views with real-time shadows into
their apps, allowing for easily recognizable
layering of information, tabs and more.

Android
also has a revision to the Roboto system font,
and all new animations including touch feedback.

Animations between apps, activities and screens
can be made across the entire Material Design
framework and the Material theme will filter out
to Google's apps in months to come.

There is a new unified design guideline for
developer's available on Google's design site.
The use of shadows takes elements of Google
Now's card stacks and spread them throughout
the interface, so you can see, through the use of
shadows and layering, that one element will
animate above another when you tap it, swipe it
or scroll to it.

The effects are great and the
animations look smooth and creative.

You May also see:-

* Android 4.4 Kitkat Featurest

Notifications, multitasking and access:-

Notifications are now available direct from the
lock screen. As we saw with the leaks of Project
Hera, notifications and alerts can instantly
access the relevant app without leaving what
you were doing (swiping will dismiss
notifications so you can continue what you were
doing if you're busy). If you are wearing a
smartwatch, are at home, or you've set your
voice to be recognized, your smartphone can be
kept unlocked. As soon as you leave your
''unlocked'' space, stop speaking or remove your
Bluetooth device, your smartphone will assume it
should go into lockdown. ''Personal
unlocking'' means you'll no longer need to
endlessly enter your PIN or password every time
you unlock your device.

As you can see, ART will double the performance

ART runtime, graphics and battery
optimizations
As we've known for a while now, ART is
replacing Dalvik as the default runtime in the L
release of Android. ART pre-compiles apps the
first time you install them, so you'll be getting
faster app launches every time, right from the
beginning. ART also supports 64-bit processing.

ART is reportedly twice the speed of Dalvik and
will be an Android-supported update for all apps,
costing app developers nothing at all to
implement. There's also major improvements to
graphics performance for hi-res gaming and
impressive changes to battery demands through
system-wide optimizations covered under the
umbrella of Project Volta. A default battery saver
in the L release will bring the same kinds of
extreme power saving options we've been seeing
on 2014's flagship devices to all Androids on the
L release.

The L release will bring a stock battery saver to
Google Play Services and security
Google Play Services updates ship every six
weeks, meaning users always have the latest
malware definitions, constant security patches
and the long-awaited kill switch (although they
never called it that specifically) so you can
remotely disable or wipe your device if it is
stolen. Google Play Services will now be the
agent responsible for pushing security patches,
rather than via firmware updates, meaning
security will be much more responsive than it
has been previously.

The L release will also
allow you to use your personal device at work,
with built-in sandboxing (like we've seen in
Samsung's Knox platform) to keep your personal
and professional experiences separate, even
within the same device.

Universal Data Controls
let you manage all of your app privacy settings
in one place.
Android Wear will keep everything synced
between your wearable and smartphone.

Android Wear and Google Fit
As expected, Android Wear is a key component
of Google I/O and is deeply integrated into the L
release too. The full Android Wear SDK is now
available for developers. The smartphone will
become the hub of activity, but the wearable will
be the key screen in your casual interactions, so
you can cut down on the frequency of pulling
your phone out of your pocket and checking
notifications, updates and other relatively ''minor''
things. Check out further details on Android
Wear and wearables at Google I/O .
Google Fit is a new set of APIs designed to take
all kinds of data from your fitness apps and the
sensors on your smartphone and wearable
devices and centralize them in one place, so all
of your fitness data is instantly accessible. Of
course, you can also grant apps permission to
access that data as well, so you can pick and
choose amongst the variety o health manager
apps available.

Google is really taking the health
aspect in Android L to new heights.
What are your thoughts on Android L? What
other features do you want to see?

HTC One E8 Launched in India, Price will be Under 30,000

HTC launched the HTC One M8  in India very recently,
it came with a price tag of 50,000 +.

The device did
not prove to be the best seller in the market but
it managed to make good sales and return some
profit to the company.

Ever since HTC launched
the One M8, we were certain of a budget friendly
brother of the M8 in the production. The device
gave us some glimpse in the past showing off its
plastic body and the single camera setup on the
rear side.

The company has now launched the One E8
officially in India, it is launched for a price of Rs
34,900.
The price definitely does not attract much
as it ditches metal and Duo camera for plastic
unibody design.

It looks like with this smartphone
HTC has played Apple, Apple launched the iPhone
5 and iPhone 5c in a similar fashion and flopped
very badly.

The metal iPhone 5 made great sales but iPhone
5c begged for attention. People even termed it as
the worst iPhone ever. This philosophy may or
may not work for HTC but if the device was
priced under Rs 30,000 we would have been
happy about it. On the spec front the HTC One E8
stands similar to its metal sibling, and varies
mostly in terms of build quality and the Duo
Camera setup.

Here are the specifications of One E8

  • 5-inch Full HD display

  • 2.5GHz Snapdragon processor

  • Android KitKat with HTC Sense 6.0

  • Dual SIM

  • 13-MP rear and 5-MP front facing camera

  • Front facing Dual Speakers

  • 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM

  • 2,600mAH battery
